As history goes back you don't really see this stereotype around that much, But now i find it to be a big part of our society. Girls have kind of come under the influence that they are always right and that they can make up false advertising on people (especially guys) that is completely a lie just to make it so they are better recognized. I find that in this school girls think they are the cats meow and that nothing can over come them. For instance There was a comment in class the other day about how "guys are slackers and just do drugs"( not from Mr. Lavender). But when i comes down to it i can name just as many girls that have done drugs as well. They also think that they are the school prised possession because of there sports. They always have some way to get away with things like not being at class or being late because they were icing but that is not an excuse to get you out of class, but for some reason they think it is perfectly okay. When you go and look at there records they arnt anything special. They have rarely made it passed regionals and gone onto states. Then when you look at the guys standings we are just as good if not better is some records. If these Lady's go off to college with this thought in there head they are going to have a pretty rued awaking to the real world. This is a school that maybe competes at a D III level which is nothing. There are schools around us that have kids being drafted into major universities and not having to pay a Penni for anything because they are so good at a certain sport. I think that men in this school have kind of come to the reality that if we really wanted to go somewhere fare in a sport that we would have had to probably moved to a bigger school and dedicated almost all of our time to it. The girls in this school have come under a terrible influence that isn't going to get them far in the normal day life unless the change it walk into the real world.

Women Drivers

One of the most profound stereotypes I have found present in today's society, is the idea that Women are bad drivers. Its present in everyday life driving down the street, with the ever present fear that an accident will happen. The cause: a Woman. I believe this stereotype formed from just the simple evolution of women's rights and the automobile. Back in the day when cars were first invented, women were still viewed to be "lesser" then their male counterparts, so only men drove cars. Along with that, only rich white males typically could buy cars, and there is no way a rich white man would lend his car to a "lesser" being. It just kept getting worse as history went on, as all men were aloud to drive, while it was rare to see a woman behind the wheel. In today's world, statistics back up this stereotype. In my life, when i'm in the passenger seat of a car operated by a woman, the first thing in my mind is seat belt, while with a guy driving, I usually think music, food, etc... Being a guy, and having the expectation of good driving, I hate to say, but I look down upon drivers of lesser capability, which for the most part are women. You can call that sexism, but then all men are sexist.

Being a guy completely defines my character and mind. Golfers in the US are predominantly male, along with drummers. Being stronger is obviously a quality of men that is never overlooked, but guys also take on the slacker or stoner status much easier than women.

Gender in my eyes does not change anything. Women are capable of everything men can accomplish, or even exceed. Women are definitively morally stronger then men to me, as they did drudge on through the male dominated society since the beginning or time, and as of now have begun to take the lead.

The stereotype that women are bad drivers may be true, it may not, but all I know is that gender typically is not a deciding factor in anything the human mind can envision. Stereotypes are just evolved opinions created way back when sexism was blatantly present in the world. All I know is that opinions are meant to be proven wrong, which women at this point are starting to do. I do still believe that men are better drivers than women, but that could change very quickly with the evolution of women in the past.

Gender Issues

Honestly, I am not a fan of stereotyping discussions, because stereotypes are most of the time wrong, offensive, and just another way to start a fight with women. First off, the stereotypes we have talked about are only about the majority of women or men, not all women or men. Also, society always seems to over exaggerate how bad an issue is, or, in this situation, how much guys care about women's personality when picking a mate. For example, women believe that men look at them as sex dolls and only show interest in a women's apperance, which everyone knows is not entirely true and over exaggerated, that's how almost all stereotypes are. Another problem that is usually brought up when talking about stereotypes, is how offensive hearing the gender roles can be to somebody who is in the minority. Because when a member of the minority group is assumed to share similar qualities as someone in the majority group, the indiviual would most likely feel offended and judged. The whole idea of thinking someone is someway or does something just because of their gender is wrong. Who you are, as a person does not come from your gender. Your type of sex should not matter in most cases in society. For example, a women should NEVER not be hired for a job nor not be promoted based on their sex. Stereotypes just are stupid and should not be used to judge another person.

Emy's Thoughts!! Gender Issues

Gender Stereotypes are still here today. I don't know where they came from or why they are still around but we do face them on a daily bases. Yesterday we thought of many things that we still think affect us today. A couple of examples of this are women can't drive, men are violent, and women's sports aren't as good as men's.
We thought that stereotype "women can't drive" came from way back when because men are supposed to work with all of the machinery and they operate and control things, while the women are supposed to raise the family and stay in the house cleaning and cooking. Even though that's what they did in the early to mid 1900's, that's not how it works anymore. Women are becoming more superior and are capable of doing everything men can do. We always have been able to do the things men have done, we just haven't been able to or it wasn't acceptable in the society.
"Men are violent." This Stereotype was used back during the war and also present day. Back during the big wars women were not allowed to fight, that was the mans job. The women had to stay at home and watch the children, cook and clean. Even today the majority of people in the army are men. Men are the ones that most likely have guns, go hunting, in the NRA, and fighting in the Army. Women are definitely capable of dong this task!
Finally "women's sports aren't as good as men's." This Stereotype is more common today then it was back then because back then women didn't have sports. Today, athletes, both men and women, are excelling and are able to jump, run, and play like beasts. Even though most men athletes are stronger than women athletes, the women can still hold there own and play with poise instead of muscle.
I think that both men and women are able to do the same things and it shouldn't matter the gender because everyone is capable of excelling in all areas of the world! It might get done differently but the end product will most likely come out the same!!

As long as time goes back man has always been dominant. Before all our technology and modern age people had to survive off the land. The male body is physically made stronger and made to take a beating. This helped the male in defending himself, going on hunts, and taking care of the family. The woman body is elegant and has the ability to create another life! The woman were very good at taking care of the man who hunts the food and works the crops. They also took care of the clothing, cooking, house, and children. Without the woman the man would live like a pig and starve(because most men don't know how to cook). Without the man the woman would also starve, and also be in danger. For life to work smoothly both man and woman need to work together. Now coming back to modern day there are grocery stores and microwaves. Now men still feel like they can slack off to get by in life but in reality the woman are the ones who are succeeding the most in high schools. Its the woman who is clean cut and has ambition to make a change. Its woman who are going to go out and get that job she desires so much, maybe because the past has never allowed it. I do not understand why men thought of women as an object. How could another human being treat some one like shit and call them a "slut, or a bitch, and then expect them to sleep with you. I grew up in a home where it is just me and my mom. She has influenced me to have much respect for woman. Like what is the big deal? we are both human beings, one should not be downgraded from the other. Its about time that woman are stepping up and taking charge.

Throughout history, gender stereotypes have been seen all over. One of these include the fact that women are terrible drivers. Some people believe this stereotype was created because back when cars were first emerging, men were the only ones who were able to drive, thus giving them the advantage in being a good driver. Joking about women drivers is seen all over, but in a sense, this is not only a stereotype, but more of a disadvantage for women. Another stereotype among gender is that men are physically stronger than women. Although this may be true in many cases, femininity also plays a role in this stereotype. Its not that women can't become as strong or masculine as men, its just the fact that women are expected to act lady-like, and in the eyes of most people, it is somewhat gross to see a women that can bench just as much weight as me.
In my opinion, gender should not matter. Although these stereotypes often make us believe that one gender is better than the other, there are plenty of facts that contradicts each stereotype. For example, women are bad drivers. There are so many professional women car drivers, or limo drivers, or bus drivers that would undoubtedly kick my, and a large portion of males ass' in a driving test. The fact that women cannot become as physically strong as men. This is also untrue and is proved everyday by women. In eighth grade I arm wrestled a girl named Kulani Aplin. time after time I would get beat by her, continuously embarrassing myself until I finally realized that women can easily be just as strong as men. Twenty-five years ago, womens role in society was pretty much set in stone. They were usually house wives that would stay at home and cook and clean with little room for gender equality. As the years progressed, more and more women became tired of these stereotypes that men are all around better and decided to do something about it. Slowly, womens rights are being granted that are making them more equal to man. Although there will always be gender stereotypes, women are making great efforts to prove these stereotypes wrong.

Some of the most persistent gender stereotypes that came up in discussion in class would probably be "men are better at driving" and "women are more hygienic." I think the source of these stereotype is the amount of time they've been around, and the majority of each race acting according to the stereotype. In the 18th Century women were seen as inferior to men and weren't allowed the same rights as them. They weren't able to vote, drive, and would rarely get paid as much as men if they even had a job. Since driving was left up to the men, women were always seen to be bad at it. Over the years the stereotype just stuck. I've seen that men now a days joke about being scared that a girl got her license, or don't trust them behind the wheel. The stereotype that women are more hygenic is a newer concept I think. In media and everywhere around women they're being told how to look. Makeup, clothes, and hair are very important to women becuase it seems to be what guys judge them on. Guys don't have to really do anything, they just roll out of bed and start their day because women don't expect more than that. In our hallway by our high school gym you can tell which locker room is men and womens solely on the smell. Women just seem to care about it more, being clean is important to them. Of course it's a stereotype but you can see it on a daily basis.
