Emily's opinion
My opinion on same sex marriage is that it should be allowed. I think that if people are in love and want to get married then they should be allowed to. If two people of the same sex are totally in love and have been together as partners for years wouldn’t you much rather have them get married then two 18 year olds who are on drugs and have been together for a week and decide to have a shot gun wedding. (And im not saying that all gay couples are in love.)Many people say that it goes against the definition of marriage, but I think people who don’t marry for love and the people that don’t understand what it means to be married that are destroying it. Rick Santorum says, “The institution of marriage is already under assault. So why should we do more to discredit it and harm it?” We are harming it by having stupid people like Kim Kardashian get married for a week before divorcing. Why don’t we put laws on those people instead of people that truly love each other. In the bible it says, “You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against any of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself.”. So why don’t we just let people who love each other be together and stop insulting them and belittling them.

exactly.. i agree with this. talk about the benefits of more adoptions and children living in stable homes. even if the parents and not a male and a female, wouldn't two happy gays be better than an unstable single parent? another thing i would say is that they could change the definiton of marriage to between two people, not just a man and a woman.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Emily, I totally agree with you, but you are supposed to be arguing against same-sex marriage. At least, that's what it says on the sheet Lavender handed out. So, you should just try to destroy all the good arguments you brought up for it. HAHA. Okay, good luck arguing against something you believe in and sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
ReplyDeletehave you seen the fire fighter movie with adam sandler? like when the gay marry because they have to and then they find out they find out they cant. i wonder how much people marry each other because of having to maybe you could address it. you need to obviously rebuttle all of your fors..
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. I think that people do not take marriage seriously. People get married because they can get divorced. Talk about the benefits of gay marriage, like Jessi said.
ReplyDeleteI like how you talk about the value of love. I think you should emphasize that point and about how the value is more important than the people its between, gender, other's opinions, and all that. You're off to a good start and this is good for your opinion so YAY EMILY
ReplyDeleteEmily,
ReplyDeleteYou make some good points here (I think the Kardashian woman will provide a handy, extreme example of the pitfalls of 'traditional marriage.' Be wary, though, of the argument that love is enough to justify sanctioning all marriages, as many opponents of same-sex marriage often espouse the belief that marriage is primarily about procreation (plus, they make the 'slippery slope' argument that allowing marriage based solely on love would allow almost any sort of union).
