NO SAME SEX MARRIAGE

I am on the side that is against same sex marriage. I'm not really sure where I am gonna start, cause this totally is not my view but I guess I will just kinda start off with the Bible, religious beliefs, and Republican ideals for reasons on why marriage is a union that should be between a man and a woman. Then I will probably talk about tradition and wonder why there is suddenly a need for it to be legal. Why do they need a label as married? What's wrong with being in a civil union, living together, and doing everything the same as a married couple? I can talk about how what their relationship is is much more important than what the state will call them.

  1. You are very right about the whole why do we need to put a label on love. If people want to be together then they can. But as Mr.Lavender said, you get so many benifits from being married. (insurance and stuff)

  2. lets talk and use ideas together because were in the same boat. I think your off to a great start but we could also take on the fact that the gov needs not to be involved and can marriage should be disregarded. also the ideal of families because of nature of our sexual partss....

  3. I am in the same position as you, and it's hard arguing for something you don't necessarily believe in. The Bible is a great place to start: how it explicitly says gay marriage is illegal. Also talk about the definition of marriage as between a man and a woman and how allowing two people of the same sex to marry would inhibit this definition.

  4. Exactly like I told Jo, you are on the right path, but I think you also need to identify the opposition and tear it apart. It's more than just backing up what your argument is, it's also about ripping apart the other side. So, I know this will be great, but that's just my two cents about it. Nice work!

  5. Mal,

As the comments above already make clear, your best approach is to first identify those arguments you already hold in support of same-sex marriage, and then try to flip them on their head (given that you've been assigned the 'wrong' side of the debate). This can be a good exercise in argumentation. Just be sure to delve deeply into the source materials both for support, and for points to argue against.
