gender
Gender play a role in every persons life. For men it is different, the stereotype is that they are strong and powerful, where as women have the stereotype as they can not even compete with a man in anyway. that is completely not true! I know women that are stronger and faster than some guys. Women are just as capable as men, and this plays a role in my life. Being a female there are supposedly limitations. Whether i am playing hockey or driving a car there is a stereotype. Girls cant check...that is demeaning for women saying we cant handle a little physical contact, but we have girls on our team that play with the boys in their league as well as ours. Driving, is another concept that really frustrates me. i am 100 percent positive i am a better driver than most guys, and i know a lot of women are better than the guys i know driving. But at the same time when we have all these limitations and stereotypes it is super fun to go around and do something that is a "manly" thing and do it better than a guy. As far as opportunities go there aren't that many things that only women can do and men cant, which isn't that big of a deal for me. But limitations, again there aren't many. School wise there is no difference, at home there are some things that are different. when my dad goes out shooting with his friends he takes my brother and never invites me, but if he goes alone he always takes me, i dont really get that. Gender doesn't necessarily play a part in my life, stereotypes are the problem. The fact that people think men are stronger, more powerful, and more capable is bull!!! Because if women wanted to do anything they are more than capable!

ReplyDeletei agree. maybe it is just that some women take the time to think about the consequences. Where as men like the dangerous stuff. They really push their limit.
ReplyDeleteYour post reminded me of the essay we read, "Shooting Dad." I'm curious to hear what you thought of it.
